After-School Care

Kindergarten After-School Care

1:00 pm–4:00 pm
A period of rest and quiet activity provides young children with “down time” indispensable to their balanced daily rhythm. This quiet time of storytelling and rest is offered for the first hour, followed by age-appropriate afternoon activities such as arts and crafts, free play, and snack. Our After-School Care activities complement our Kindergarten programs, and bring the same level of attention to the rhythm of the day and the needs of our young students. Kindergarten After-School Care is provided at both our Kinderhaus and main campus Kindergartens.

Grades 1–5 After-School Care

3:30 pm–6:00 pm
The environment for the youngest students (Grades 1–3) is warm and home-like, designed to provide them with a slower pace and caring atmosphere after a busy school day. Activities such as bread-baking, gardening, crafts, dress-up, imaginative play, and plenty of supervised outdoor free play are offered. Children help with snack preparation and clean up.

Older students (Grades 4–5) benefit from more vigorous games and activities. We offer outdoor games such as kickball, throw and catch games, and lots of free play. In addition, board games, building materials (for outdoor and indoor building), woodwork projects and other crafts are offered.

Middle School Extended Day Programs

Middle school students in Grade 6–8 need to remain physically active, interact socially with their peers, and begin to pursue individual interests (i.e. music, drama, sports, etc), which many families choose to pursue outside of school. However, we also find that students often benefit from, and enjoy, being supported in doing their homework. Sessions below are available to students in Grades 6, 7, and 8. Study Hall and Craft Afternoons are offered free of charge, and will be held in one of the middle school classrooms.

SUTDY HALL: Study Hall is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm, and provides a period of quiet work time in which students are supervised by a middle school class teacher ready to assist them with their homework.

CRAFT AFTERNOONS: We occasionally provide a time for social interactions around a craft activity such as knitting, one afternoon a week from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Students work on their own projects using their own materials, or work on handwork projects from class. A handwork teacher or assistant is present to assist students.

CLUBS & ACTIVITIES: We offer extracurricular activities for students in Grades 6, 7, and 8. These activities meet after school in four- to eight-week blocks, and are provided by either SWS teachers or other contracted providers. Fees range from $70 to $140, depending on the duration of the activity. A full program of extra-curricular activities with offerings, schedule and registration instructions is published at the beginning of the school year.
