Outdoor & Environmental Education

Outdoor experiences are characterized by vibrancy and varying degrees of risk, meeting a young adult’s curiosity and quest for independence. Our outdoor program allows students to experience the natural world, understand the value of teamwork, and build self-confidence.

Over four years students participate in different adventure trips and encounter progressively more challenging situations. We highlight the concepts of problem solving, decision making, and cause and effect. For instance, what’s the consequence of not wearing a rain jacket? How does one person’s decision affect the rest of the group? Could you survive on your own in the wilderness?

Each trip lasts approximately five days. The students plan, pack, do all the work and break everything down upon return. Our current outdoor program includes:

  • Grade 9: Cascade mountain backpacking trip
  • Grade 10: Self-supported bicycle camping journey
  • Grade 11: Olympic coast multi-day beach hike
  • Grade 12: Sea-kayaking trip
