Seattle Waldorf High School culture is consciously inclusive. Through ongoing collaboration, our students forge genuine interest in each other and lasting friendships. Although some classes take place in smaller groups (math, for example) most of our courses are designed for the full class group where students come to recognize and appreciate the diversity of each other’s virtues and talents.
A typical day begins with a short community meeting twice a week followed by the intensive, 90-minute morning lesson. Students then have a 15-minute break followed by five 40-minute periods—three before lunch and two more in the afternoon. Both students and teachers participate in 15-minute cleaning periods in the afternoon as well.
Students in Grades 10–12 have open campus privileges during lunch breaks. Many students enjoy their lunch near the International Fountain or at the food court at Seattle Center.
Within the daily schedule, students meet around campus in a variety of ways during breaks. Some work on yearbook or attend to student council affairs while others choose to do homework, play basketball, or meet informally with teachers.
Our location near Seattle Center provides invaluable opportunities for explorations around the city, such as walking field trips to the Seattle Art Museum or downtown library, the International District for Japanese class, to Benaroya Hall for a music performance, or to any number of nearby theaters for dramatic performances.
